Tokyo, the capital of Japan, the world’s most highly populated city. Tokyo is home to 31,000,000 people. Most live in its crawling suburbs, commuting to the crowded centre on the extensive train networks. All Japan’s major companies headquarter is Marunouchi, the central state-of –the-art district that leads the world in business and banking. Here shiny modern office blocks stand by side.

It is one of the world’s largest cites. It has spread about 12.36 million (as of September 2003). The climate is generally mild. It is located in the kanto region on the island Honshu. Hills and mountains enclose the city on three sides. Twenty six cities lie with in the western part of Tokyo.

The highest mountain in Tokyo is Mt. Kumotri (2,017m high). Lake Okutama is the largest lake over here. There are also high number of mountains, lakes, rivers and islands. It also contains numerous parks and gardens for entertain the people.Tokyo has the largest metropolitan economy in the world. It is one of the three world finance command centers along with New York and London.

It is also home for investment banks and insurance companies. The Tokyo’s stock exchange is Japan’s largest stock exchange and second largest in the world by market capitalization and fourth largest by share turn over. They used to export vegetable, fruits, flowers and spinach to the eastern part of the prefecture. The Imperial Palace, home of the emperor of japan, is situated in the heart of downtown Tokyo. It is one of the historic monuments.

Trains and plains are the main means of transport in Tokyo. Crowded streets, expensive road tolls, and lack of parking hamper the use of cars in the cities. Bicycle is popular for short journeys. Japan’s air route between Tokyo and Chitose on Hokkaido is one of the busiest in the world. Environmental protests delays the opening of Narita city airport, 66km (41 miles) north of the capital for 20 years. Finally it was opened in 1978. And the other is Tokyo international airport.

Tokyo has many universities, colleges and schools. University of Tokyo is the most important for all. There are also universities for medical, dental, electro-communications, institute of technology and more. There is only one public university named Tokyo Metropolitan University. It also has many private schools from kindergarten through higher secondary school.

Tokyo is extraordinary city with numerous parks, theatres and museums. Tokyo is the political, cultural and industrial heart of Japan. Tokyo becomes a model for the entire country. Many of the homes of the former feudal lords were converted in to government offices and schools. Numerous western-style buildings are finished everyday. But, many monuments were destroyed by the many earthquakes and fire that affect the city every year. It also killed many people.

Early Tokyo was bombed in World War II and as a result stands only wasteland. But after the war, the city was rebuilt and designed with remarkable speed. Tokyo is larger and more modern than ever before. Houses of Tokyo were made of reinforce concrete and fire proof. There are number of houses in Tokyo are enormous but still Tokyo face a severe housing shortage.

Tokyo government was differed in its government from other Japanese cities. The chief elected is not a mayor but governor. Tokyo’s chief executive is responsible for governing more people. Tokyo is growing rapidly. The city was more and more crowded. One of the liveliest countries in the world is Tokyo.
