Sydney is the capital of Australia and home to 4.28 million people as of 2006 census. Sydney is one of the biggest cities followed by Melbourne and Brisbane. Sydney is one of the most populous cities in Australia. A resident of the city is termed as Sydneysider. The nick name of the city is “the harbor city”. It is known for the Sydney Opera House and the Harbor Bridge. It is also the most expensive city on earth.
British named the city as “Earo”. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Blue Mountains to the west, the Hawkesbury River to the north and the Royal National Park to the south. Port Jackson is the largest natural harbor in the world. It is also referred as “Sydney harbor” which honors the metropolitan area. There are more than 70 harbor and beaches. Sydney has sunny, moderate climate which gives people relaxed life style and love of the great outdoors. The city is mostly affected with hail storms and wind storms. One such storm was the 1999 hailstorm which damaged Sydney badly. It is glory that it does not affect from any cyclones or earthquakes. The city is a business gateway to Australia. The central business district in Sydney is home to most of Sydney’s financial centers. It is also the largest corporate and financial centre in the Asia pacific. Sydney is mostly adapted with Christianity. They are about 64 per cent. The other major religions are Buddhists (3.7%), Muslims (3.9%), Hindus (1.7%), Jews (0.9%) and no religion (14.1%). Most of the residents were Australians, English, Irish, Scottish and Chinese according to 2006 census. English is the common language for native speakers. The other languages are Arabic, Chinese and Italian. Sydney has a high number of parks. Royal national park is the second oldest national park in the world. There are five major national parks around Sidney with 8,000 sq km of open space. Sidney is home to sports in football, basket ball and like. Sydney had host eight world cups including one of the semi-finals. ANZ stadium is the main stadium for the 2000 summer Olympics. It is one of the world’s favorite destinations for international education. Sydney and surrounds offer world class study option for local and overseas students. University of Sydney is Australia’s first university, established in 1850. It has public, denominational and independent schools which are administered by New South Wales department of education and training. It is a remarkable easy city to move around in an excellent train bus and ferry service covers all areas of the greater metropolitan area. Most Sydney tourist attractions are either within the central business district, close to the CBD, or at points around the harbor. The places are Bondi and manly- surf beach suburbs situated south and north of Sydney heads. The harbor is Sydney on a warm day, with a clear blue sky, there is no better place on earth. Sydney is ranked first in the Asia pacific. Jobs are plentiful, education is world class and health care is readily available. The weather is fine and the people are friendly- a great place.
