New Delhi is the capital city of India. The total area covers 42.7 square of km. It is situated within the metropolis of Delhi and serves as the seat of the Government of India and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Calcutta was the capital of India until 1911 during the British rule. V, the emperor of India made an announcement the capital of the Raj was supposed to be shifted from Calcutta to Delhi. Most of New Delhi was planned by Edwin Lucytens, a leading 20th century British architect. New Delhi was laid out to the south of the old city which was constructed by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan.
New Delhi is governed by its own municipal government known as the New Delhi Municipal Council. Other urban areas of Delhi are governed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. New Delhi is structured around two central promenades called the Rajpath and the Janpath. The Rajpath or king’s way runs from the Rastrapathi Bhavan to the India gate. The Janpath (formerly known as Queen’s way) begins at Conaught Circus and cuts the Shantipath at right angles. Rastrapathi bhavan is known as the heart of the city. The parliament house was designed by Herbert baker. It is located at the Sansad Marg.

Hinduism is the most religion in Delhi. They are about 82%. There are also other larger communities of Muslims (11.7%), Sikhs (4.0%), Jains (1.1%) and Christians (0.9%). Hindi is the spoken and written language in Delhi. The languages which are also spoken in the city are English, Punjabi, Urdu, Kannada, Telungu, Bengali and Marathi. Delhi food is a mixture of north Indian food, mughlai cuisisnes, Punjabi food and mouth watering street food. It is also known for continental food and Chinese food.
Transportation in Delhi is largely dependent upon roads. It has one of the highest road densities in India. The total road length of Delhi was 28,508 km. The State and Union Government of Delhi was designed Mass Rapid Transmit System known as Delhi metro in 1998 to control traffic. Delhi is connected to the whole of the nation by Indian railways. There are also local trains to connect Delhi to its sub-urban areas. Indira Gandhi International airport (IGI) is well connected to domestic and international places. The other transports are buses, taxis, auto rickshaws and much more.
Delhi is historically a rich city. It has many historical monuments like Jantar Mantar and the Lodhi Gardens. Red fort, Delhi zoo, Humayun’s tomb, India gate, Lal Gumbad, Lodi tomb, Qutabminar, Raj Ghat, Rastrapathi Bhavan are attracting spots in Delhi. These places are all keep busy always and amusement for ever.
